Considering Fresh Donor Eggs: Here’s What You Need to Know

f

For some couples — becoming a parent using the female’s own eggs isn’t possible. So, why isn’t this probable and what are the options going forward? Some women are unable to produce an egg that leads to pregnancy due to various medical reasons.

Women experiencing premature menopause, decreased ovarian activity, or poor egg quality are often candidates for a donor egg. Having gone through IVF previously without success, being a known carrier of genetic diseases, over the age of 40, and same-sex couples may benefit from donor eggs as well.

Fresh vs. Frozen Donor Eggs

Couples undergoing donor egg IVF can choose between a fresh donor IVF cycle and a frozen donor IVF cycle. With fresh egg donation both the mother and donor will undergo treatments before the actual IVF.

A frozen donor egg may be selected from an egg donor clinic or a bank. This allows the couple to accelerate the procedure because they can pick a donor egg with the characteristics they’re looking for and start preparing for IVF soon after.

Are You Considering Fresh Donor Eggs?

PureOvum egg collective — in partnership with Fertility Medical Specialists Group (FSMG) — offers patients the option of fresh donor egg IVF. Our team understands you may have many questions about the procedure — and our goal is to ensure that you’re comfortable and well-informed throughout the process.

In a fresh donor cycle, your donor will be screened and complete her cycle after you select her for your cycle. The eggs will be fertilized with your sperm source on the day of the egg retrieval, and although the embryos may be frozen for future use, the eggs will not be frozen.

Our experienced team will guide you on your options to help you make the right choice for your family. To learn more about this topic and speak to one of our physicians about fertility treatment, you can request a consultation here.
